Wedding Reception Tips and tricks

Your wedding is a special day, but time can fly! You want to be able to make the most out of your reception and enjoy every moment of it! Here are some tips and tricks to get the best out of your reception for you and your loved ones.

When it comes to your wedding reception day, you need to let things be. It is okay to plan frantically in the months leading up to your wedding, but once your special day arrives, you just have to let the events unfold. Give someone the responsibility to deal with the little things such as figuring out who has the cake knife and putting the banner back up after it falling down. Your time is precious, it is a precious day. Treasure these moments and don’t waste them on the cake knife!

I am assuming that the people at your wedding are the closest people in your life. You should try to not keep them waiting as best as you can. Even providing them with a detailed timeline of the events of the reception will make sure that those slow poaches will be on time! But you also have to stick to it! Keep everyone to a strict time schedule and it should be a seamless night! We do not want anyone getting restless!

Most wedding receptions use the traditional layouts an event such as the entrance, first dance, parent dance, toasts, cake cutting, bouquet and garter toss and the final exit. Now I am not saying you have to stick to this traditional theme, but it is important not to pack the day with many more events. It is important to give your guests time to dance, but also time to relax!

Hiring a DJ is a tough decision. We recommend finding someone that has been used before by someone you know or who has got a good rating to stop the awkwardness when the DJ is playing teen pop music and your great aunt is not looking pleased. Give them some recommendations of songs that you would like to be played, but you also have to trust that they are a professional and let them do their thing. They should be able to read the crowd and adjust accordingly.

To have a good party, you need good lighting. The lights should be dim, as this makes your guests more comfortable and more likely to get up and boogie. Less visibility means less embarrassment. But make sure you talk with your videographer in case the lighting is affecting the quality of the film.

This is a hard one and it would seem that you can never win but stick with me. It is important to have the temperature at your wedding reception venue just right. Not too cold, not too hot. Temperature can make or break the day so if you have an issue talk to the planner or coordinator. It is your day so if you have an issue don’t be scared to speak it.

This is a tip for the bride. Listen up, I know you want your dream shoes, three-inch heel… straps… skinny toe, jewels etc. I am not saying don’t have this dream. They look great for the ceremony and stunning in the photographs, but let’s be honest… they are not dancing shoes. Bring some flats and give your feet a break so you can get your dance on!

Budgeting is important. I have said it once I will say it again. Do not overspend. There is not something more stressful than overspending. Plan and spend wisely, so your honeymoon and wedding will not break your bank.

Be happy!! Be yourself and have fun then your guests will lead from your example. Enjoy your reception! You are getting married! Fantail  Weddings would love to celebrate with you, contact us here and let’s get in touch. xx
